Overview

A Skill is a reusable set of instructions that defines how nuwacom responds in a specific context. It can specify the tone, structure, format, terminology, and rules for generating output. Once created, a Skill applies automatically whenever the defined context is relevant, so consistent standards can be reused across different tasks without repeating the same instructions.

Key Benefits

  • Writing, structure, and formatting are controlled at the Skill level and applied automatically.
  • Consistent standards are enforced across reports, emails, summaries, and more.
  • Multiple Skills can be combined to fully define how nuwacom responds.
  • Proven formats and workflows become shareable across the team.

When to Use

A Skill applies whenever reliable, repeatable results are needed. When reports, emails, or summaries must follow the same structure and tone every time, a Skill enforces this without rewriting instructions or correcting outputs. The standard is defined once and reused across all work.

Use Cases

Skills apply predefined standards to recurring types of work and make consistent output available across the workspace:
  • A Customer Communication Skill standardizes the wording, terminology, and structure of external messages.
  • A Report Skill generates reports with defined sections such as an executive summary, key insights, and next steps.
  • A Customer Support Skill structures replies with a clear answer, resolution steps, and a consistent support tone.
Multiple Skills can be combined when different standards apply to the same output. For example, one Skill can define the structure of a report while another controls its tone and formatting.

Skills vs. Agents

A Skill and an Agent serve different roles and work best in combination. Applying a Skill to an Agent combines autonomous task execution with guaranteed output quality. When a behavior should always stay consistent regardless of who initiates it, it belongs in a Skill.

How It Works

When a conversation starts, all active Skills run in the background. nuwacom reads each Skill’s description and determines which ones are relevant to the request. If a match is found, the Skill is applied automatically, without selection or mention. For example, the prompt “Write a follow-up email after a customer meeting. Include next steps and keep the tone professional.” triggers a Customer Communication Skill whose description reads “Use for customer emails, follow-ups, and external communication,” and the Skill is applied automatically.

Skills Governance

Skills in nuwacom are organized into three categories: System Skills, Personal Skills, and Workspace Skills. Each category defines who owns and manages the Skill.

System Skills

System Skills are platform-level Skills developed and maintained by nuwacom. They are not visible in the Skills management interface and cannot be modified or deactivated by workspace admins or users. They run in the background and support how the Orchestrator operates across different tasks and workflows.

Personal Skills

Personal Skills are custom Skills created by Editors or Admins for their own use. They can be activated or deactivated at any time.

Workspace Skills

Workspace Skills are custom Skills created and managed by Editors or Admins for use within the organization. They can support company-specific processes, terminology, formats, and workflows.

Skills and Policies

Policies define what is allowed, including applicable standards and restrictions. Skills define how nuwacom operates within this framework, such as tone, structure, format, and working methods. Policies always take precedence. Skills cannot override or bypass them.

FAQ

nuwacom reads the description of every active Skill and matches it against the request. The description is the activation trigger, so it should clearly state when the Skill applies.
All matching Skills can apply together. To enforce one specific Skill, mention it directly with @Skill name in the input field.
No. A Skill attached to an Agent is active automatically for everyone using that Agent.
Toggle the Skill on in the Skills overview to make it available in chat at any time.
No. Custom Skills are built through a conversation in the input field, without manual setup.
Agents are the executors. Each Agent is fully configurable: what it does, which knowledge it accesses (for example a product description), which actions are available (for example sending a message), and how it operates, including AI model, response style, and tone of voice. A configured Agent knows what to do, how to execute it, and how to guide through the process.Skills are the standards. They define what the output looks like in terms of structure, tone, format, and rules. Skills run in the background and keep outputs consistent and immediately usable. The core difference:
  • Agent: executes tasks using knowledge, tools, and defined settings.
  • Skill: shapes the quality and consistency of the output.
Combining both increases their impact. A configured Agent determines what happens and how it runs, while a Skill ensures the result always meets the defined standards.
Policies define the boundaries. Skills define how work is carried out within those boundaries. When a conflict occurs, the policy always applies.
A Skill applies whenever reliable, repeatable results are needed. When reports, emails, or summaries follow the same structure and tone every time, a Skill enforces this automatically. The standard is defined once and reused across all work, without rewriting instructions or correcting outputs.
Yes. Skills can be combined to control different aspects of an output at the same time. One Skill defines the structure of a report while another maintains a consistent tone. This allows full standardization of how results are generated and presented.
Skills are private by default. Sharing a Skill with the team makes it reusable across the workspace, so everyone works with the same standards, formats, and structures without defining them individually.
No. Skills are created through a simple conversation using Build with AI. Describe what is needed in plain language, and nuwacom guides through the process and generates the Skill automatically.
Permissions depend on the user’s role.
  • Reader: existing Skills can be activated or deactivated for personal use. Creating or modifying Skills is not available.
  • Editor and Admin: own Skills can be created, edited, and deleted, and Skills shared with edit rights can also be managed. Editing or deleting all Skills across the workspace globally is not available.
Yes. Once a Skill has been shared, it can be activated and used directly in chat. Existing standards become available without creating new Skills.
Changes apply to everyone with access to that Skill. When a Skill is used across a team, updates immediately affect how results are generated. Aligning changes with the team beforehand is recommended to keep results consistent.
