# Executive Summary

[Create Executive Summaries](https://fast.wistia.net/embed/iframe/3c2csmrjan?seo=true\&videoFoam=true)

## Introduction

nuwacom creates executive summaries from internal knowledge and external sources. The resulting briefings provide leadership teams with decision-relevant insights for topics such as assortment decisions, market developments, and new competitors.

## Key Benefits

* **Support decisions:** Decision-relevant insights enable leadership teams to make well-founded decisions quickly.
* **Bring sources together:** Internal knowledge and external sources inform a single briefing.
* **Clarify actions:** Key metrics, implications, and prioritized recommended actions provide a decision-focused structure.

## Use Cases

Use this recipe to prepare decisions related to assortments, market developments, or new competitors.

## How it works

### Step 1: Define the goal and audience

The intended audience and decision determine the scope, depth, and structure of the executive summary.

1. Define the audience: Specify who will read the summary and what prior knowledge they have.
2. Define the decision: Specify which decision the summary should support.
3. Set the scope: Define the required length of the final document.

### Step 2: Choose the right sources

Select the sources the AI should use before entering the prompt. Available sources can include market research reports in the Knowledge Base, internal sales reports, product data sheets, and web search results for current industry trends.

Additional documents can be attached directly in the chat and become immediately available to the AI. Connectors provide access to content from external systems.

### Step 3: Create the prompt

The definitions from Step 1 form the basis of the prompt. For a focused result, specify the structure, scope, and audience in the initial prompt instead of requesting only an "executive summary."

**A good prompt to start with:**

```text theme={null}
Create an executive briefing for the leadership team of
[COMPANY] on [TOPIC], using internal knowledge and web search.
Summarize decision-relevant insights, key metrics, and
recommended actions concisely in English.
```

For more precise results with a fixed output format, use the following template. Replace all content in square brackets and specify the required number of bullet points, metrics, and other output elements directly.

**Prompt template**

```text theme={null}
Create an executive briefing for [COMPANY] on [TOPIC].
Use selected Knowledge Base documents and web search.
Extract decision-relevant insights, not source summaries.
OUTPUT STRUCTURE
1. Key Insights – 3 bullet points
2. Key Metrics – 5 metrics, each with value,
   interpretation, source, and year
3. Implications for [COMPANY] – 3 bullet points
4. Recommended Actions – Top 3, prioritized
5. Sources – Max. 5 direct links
REQUIREMENTS
- Title: [TOPIC] — Executive Briefing
- Max. [NUMBER] words, excluding sources
- Bullet points only, max. 2 short sentences each
- No introduction, background, or methodology
- Label Internal Context / External Evidence where relevant
- Use verified facts and figures only
- Flag if fewer than 5 verifiable metrics exist
- Write in English
```

### Step 4: Review the result

Verify that the result meets the defined requirements before sharing it. Deviations can be corrected in the same chat through follow-up prompts.

### Step 5: Create the document

The pencil icon in the bottom-left corner creates a document from the generated content. The document can then be edited and refined directly in nuwacom.

### Step 6: Share the document

Once finalized, the document can be shared with other workspace users through the share icon in the top-right corner. After the recipients' names have been entered, they receive access to the document and can add comments.

## Pro tips

> **Create a skill for recurring use**
>
> For recurring use, create a skill that contains the required structure, formatting requirements, and typical audiences. The skill can also ask targeted follow-up questions to verify that all relevant information is available before generating the summary.

> **Keep the document editable**
>
> The document created through the pencil icon remains editable. Metrics, recommended actions, and wording can be adjusted directly in nuwacom before the briefing is shared.

> **Focus the document set**
>
> A focused document set reduces processing complexity and the risk of relevant information being overlooked.

## FAQ

> **Which sources should be used?**
>
> The appropriate sources depend on the topic. For internal topics such as product performance or team strategy, the Knowledge Base is usually sufficient. For market and competitive topics, combining the Knowledge Base with web search is recommended. External documents can also be attached directly in the chat and become immediately available to the AI.

> **Should multiple topics be combined in one summary?**
>
> The template is designed for one clearly defined topic and one decision. Combining multiple topics in a single prompt usually produces less detailed results. Creating a separate summary for each topic improves the quality and focus of the output.

> **Can the summary be edited before sharing?**
>
> Yes. The pencil icon converts the summary into an editable document. The content can then be adjusted directly in nuwacom before it is shared with other workspace users.
